Spring at Centro

Meet Centro staff and recent graduates at our Feb. 27 Open House at Hunter College, and come learn about opportunities and internships available to students. You also can pick up a copy of our colorful spring calendar.

The Open House, which kicks off the lineup of events for this semester, runs from
1:oo pm to 3:00 pm at Hunter’s Hall of Fame, West Building Lobby.

A highlight of the spring calendar is Meet the Author on April 24 with Lisa Sánchez González. She will talk about her book The Stories I Read to Children, The Life and Writing of Pura Belpré, the Legendary Storyteller, Children’s Author, and New York Public Librarian, which Centro Press is publishing. The Stories I Read to the Children documents, for the first time, Pura Belpré’s contributions to North American, Caribbean, and Latin American literary and library history. In The Stories I Read to the Children, Lisa Sánchez González has collected, edited, and annotated over 40 of Belpré’s stories and essays, most of which have never been published. Her introduction to the volume is the most extensive study to date of Belpré’s life and writing.

Also planned for the semester are other exciting Meet the Authors, two research seminars: Demographics and the Social Condition of Puerto Ricans in the United States and Jobs and Education of Puerto Ricans in the United States, and two Legacy Series on urban ethnographer Dr. Elena Padilla and researcher Ricardo Campos Orta.
