Call for Papers for the Fourth Biennial “Latino Art Now!” Conference

The Inter-University Program for Latino Research, the Smithsonian Latino Center and the Smithsonian American Art Museum announced a call for papers as part of the Fourth Biennial “Latino Art Now!” Conference on November 7-9, 2013. To be held in the nation’s capital for the first time this year, the “Latino Art Now! Nuestra América: Expanding Perspectives in American Art” conference will examine the contemporary state of Latino art in the United States.

Since 2005, the conference has become the leading national forum for artists, art historians, art professionals, educators, scholars, critics and art dealers. Its goal is to explore U.S. Latino art and its relationship to contemporary American visual culture and art while advancing awareness, education, scholarship and knowledge in this emerging field.

For the call for papers, submissions should include a   300-500 word paper abstract from a list of themes, including defining Latinidad in American art, art histories and Latino art in the digital moment.

This year’s conference will coincide with the exhibition “Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art” organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
